The Course of Study is required by the Division of Ordained Ministry of the United Methodist Church to ensure the education of Local Pastors. Persons choosing to enter ministry, as Local Pastors, must complete a five-year course of study. This educational plan provides an alternative to seminary education. These courses are offered for part-time Local Pastors only. Program requirements are: be a certified candidate for ordained ministry; complete requirements for license as a Local Pastor; and receive endorsement by the Annual Conference Board of Ordained Ministry.
In Tennessee, weekend courses are offered on two campuses (Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, TN on CST and Hiwassee College in Madisonville, TN on EST), simultaneously, four times a year:February/March, April/May, September/October, and October/November. Five courses are offered in each session. Occasionally a course has to be canceled due to low enrollment. Each course requires two weekends to complete. Classes are three hours on Friday evenings (5:30-9:00 p.m. including Worship) and seven hours on Saturdays. Attendance at all sessions is expected. The Director of Course of Study and the instructor must approve any absence in advance. The instructor will give a make-up assignment that must be completed within two weeks of the close of the class. Credit will not be given to those who miss more than four hours of class (GBHEM policy). Writing materials, textbooks and a Bible are needed for all class meetings.
Registration forms are available on line at www.alpsumc.org. Upon receipt of your Registration form and fee, you will receive an email to confirm your registration. Registrar contact: email@example.com
